The County of Maui Department of Environmental Management reported that a wastewater overflow of approximately 2,160 gallons occurred on Thursday, Nov. 19, 2015 at the Paukūkalo Pump Station along Waiehu Beach Road.
Officials say the overflow was caused by a sewer main line blockage of debris from a heavy rain event leading into the pump station.
According to department reports, the overflow occurred at approximately 7 p.m. and was stopped by 8:12 p.m.
Officials say wastewater flowed from a sewer manhole along Waiehu Beach Road into a storm drain.
The area was cleaned and disinfected, and warning signs were posted. The State Department of Health was also notified.
