To protect visitor safety, the Summit and Kīpahulu Districts of Haleakalā National Park will close at 4 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon, Aug. 22, 2018, in anticipation of heavy winds and rain.

The entrance gates will be locked and the park will not open for sunrise viewing on Thursday or Friday morning. Park managers will assess conditions on Friday evening and re-open the park once it is safe to do so.

In anticipation of Hurricane Lane, no back country camping permits will be issued beginning Wednesday morning. All Cabin Reservations for Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday have been canceled.
