Lahaina Cannery announces two events taking place on Saturday, April 27, 2019 including a carnival and a kite flying festival.
The first, in partnership with ʻOhana Maui Youth Foundation, is the first-ever Carnival at the Cannery to be held from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. on the lawn area fronting Starbucks. The second is the annual Kite Festival & Kite Flying Day hosted by the Lahaina Restoration Foundation, Wo Hing Society, and Maui Toy Works taking place from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on the southern open space lawn.
The inaugural Carnival at the Cannery will not only provide a venue for non-profits and youth organizations to raise funds to support their operations, but it will also bring the community together in celebration of culture, art, food, and family. The public is invited to enjoy some of Maui’s food vendors including Aloha Braised, Sumo Dogs Maui, Grandpa Joe’s Candy Company, Dee’s Poi Mochi, Maui Snow Bowls, Al’s BBQ Pit and Cream B. In addition to the wide array of food choices, entertainment will be provided by Maui Cheers All Stars, Maui Music Mission, Mahina Ah Sam and the Maui ʻUkulele Sisters. Activities and entertainment include a bouncy castle, fishing pond and raffle prizes.
In addition to the Carnival at the Cannery, Lahaina Cannery will also feature the annual Kite Festival & Kite Flying Day on Saturday, April 27 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the southern open space lawn. Hosted by The Lahaina Restoration Foundation, Wo Hing Society, and Maui Toy Works, the festival will kick off at 10 a.m. when kids can design and build their own kite, and teens can make free-form kite structures.
Bring your own kite to fly and get tips from the pros throughout the day. Plus, guests can watch as Maui’s own Kite Master, Robert Loera, performs a spectacular acrobatic sport kite air show. Admission is free to all events.
Martina Nagasako, founder of ʻOhana Maui Youth Foundation said, “We are truly excited for the opportunity to partner with Lahaina Cannery and bring the community a platform to support the island’s youth, as well to provide an event for residents and visitors alike to enjoy!”
