A community meeting will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Feb. 13, 2020 at the Lahaina Civic Center to discuss repair work needed to portions of Front Street in Lahaina, Maui.

County officials say wave action and saltwater spray have deteriorated street elements on the makai side of Front Street in two locations: between Dickenson Street and Lahainaluna Road and between Papalaua and Baker streets.

In the Dickenson-Lahainaluna section, county officials say a seawall, sidewalk, railing, planters, benches and bollards are in need of repair. In the area between Papalaua and Baker streets, wave action has displaced boulders fronting a seawall, and the County is reviewing options to preserve the roadway.

The Department of Public Works Engineering Division is planning the project to protect Front Street, address deteriorated conditions and maintain the safety and longevity of the roadway.

In a press release announcement, Mayor Michael Victorino said, “We encourage residents to attend this community meeting to learn more and offer their input. The project is in its early planning stages and public comments will be incorporated in a draft environmental assessment.”

The civic center is located at 1840 Honoapiʻilani Highway.
