Maui Health Foundation Director Melinda Sweany helps to unpack new ventilators for Maui Memorial Medical Center.

Maui Health Foundation has donated 10 ventilators to Maui Memorial Medical Center. The equipment was delivered to the hospital this week, tested, and distributed to the floors to be used as needed.

The Maui Health Foundation purchased seven ventilators and the remaining three were donated by MultiCare Health System, a not-for-profit health care organization in Washington.

“It has been truly inspirational to see the people in our community stand up so quickly to provide assistance wherever they can to our hospitals and employees,” said Melinda Sweany, Maui Health Chief Development Officer. “Ventilators are in critical demand across the nation and we’re so grateful that we had the donation funds available, and the right partners to help expedite our order to Maui in just a couple of weeks.”

“Even as we all face the challenges of this pandemic, we know we can count on each other for support,” said Sweany. “This is a shining example of the partnerships being formed in our industry. Health system to health system, we understand that providing safe care to our patients comes before anything else.”

The purchase of the critical medical equipment was made possible by the generosity of former patients and their families, individual community members, local businesses, and Maui Health Foundation members.

“We cannot express enough how thankful we are to everyone who has contributed to our COVID-19 relief efforts – from donating PPE, or meals for our employees, to those that have made monetary contributions of every amount – we are so proud to be a part of this amazing community,” said Sweany.

“The best part of this all is that we can help provide these tools to our caregivers. They show up every day and put everything they have into caring for our patients. They are real heroes here.”
