Lahaina wildfire survivors will have an opportunity to participate in a Remembrance Ride to see recovery efforts for their beloved town within weeks of the one-year anniversary of the Aug. 8, 2023, wildfire disaster.

Until now, residents have only been able to visit their own properties. Online reservations are required for Lahaina residents to ride on one of five chartered motor coaches each day, set for July 26-28. The opportunity is being organized by Maui County and coordinated through Kuhinia Maui.

To register or get more information, visit https://www.kuhiniamaui.org. Resident information will be required. In respect for the community’s request for sensitivity and dignity, this event will be closed to the news media.

“We want to provide residents the opportunity to see first-hand the progress that has been made to prepare their hometown for the next steps of rebuilding,” said Mayor Richard Bissen. “There will be a long road ahead, but it’s important that residents have the opportunity to witness the progress taking place to restore and rebuild their home.”

The mayor thanked generational Lahaina residents Laurie Lei DeGama and Nestor Ugale for championing the effort.
