Day-Long “Mahalo Party” at Coconut’s
By Maui Now Staff
Beginning today at 11 a.m., Coconut’s Fish Cafe in Kihei celebrates their fifth anniversary with a day-long “Mahalo Party.”
The event features live music, the Maui High Marching Band, and prizes. Kimokeo Kapahulehua will serve as the day’s master of ceremonies.
“I’ve been so blessed by everyone on Maui, residents and visitors alike,” said Michael Phillips, the owner and founder of Coconut’s Fish Cafe. “We’ve been so fortunate and helped by so many it can sometimes be hard to say thank you to everyone. But we’re going to try.”
Attendees to the Mahalo Party – scheduled to run from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. – will be rewarded with giveaways, door prizes, and the chance to win the grand prize: free Coconut’s food for a year.
The restaurant was named after Phillips’ cat, Coconut, who was a rescue. As a result, he and his family are matching the staff’s tips for the day with donations to the Maui Humane Society.
As mentioned, the Maui High School Marching Band will perform directly in front of the restaurant from 5:30 to 6 p.m. Other local (unnamed) musical acts are planned throughout the day.
Coconut’s began expansion on the mainland last year with its first franchise location in Scottsdale, Arizona. Additional expansions into Dallas, Texas and Austin, Texas are now underway, with additional areas under consideration.
“We strive to serve more than outrageously good food,” says Phillips. “We serve our customers with Aloha in our hearts. Our local customers are an extension of my own family. Tourists may be customers the first day, but at the end of their trip, they are our friends. I’m proud that Coconut’s is both a place to come for great food and also to feel welcome.”
