Maui’s Central Avenue to Close for Repairs, Nov. 23
The Maui Department of Public Works will be closing down a portion of Central Avenue in Wailuku for one day only on Nov. 23, 2015.
The repairs are slated for Central Avenue between Loke and North streets.
Maui County Communications Director Rod Antone said the entire operation should only last one day so as to minimize the impact to business and residents.
Work will begin at 6 a.m. and end at around 5 p.m.
County officials say flagmen will be posted at all main intersections surrounding Central Avenue to direct motorists and minimize traffic congestion. The flagmen will be located at Mill Street and Central Avenue, East Vineyard Street and Market Street, East Vineyard and Kaniela Street and Central and Maluhia Drive.
Motorists are asked to use Market and Kanieala streets as a detour around the closed area. All other nearby intersections will be open to traffic.
Pedestrians and bicyclists will have access to the area via the northbound lane of Central Avenue, which will be used as a staging area for vehicles and equipment.
The county is notifying all businesses and residents located along Central Avenue about the project so that they can make any needed preparations for that day.
