Venue Spared: Relay for Life of West Maui is On!
Thanks to the heroic efforts of Maui firefighters and first responders, event organizers of the Relay for Life event in West Maui say the venue was spared and is safe for this weekend’s fundraiser to proceed.
The family friendly festival will run from 5 p.m. to midnight on Sept. 8 from 5 p.m. in Olowalu at the Maui Paintball facility, located at 814 Honoapiʻilani Highway in Lahaina.
The event is free and open to the public. It celebrates cancer survivors and honors all those touched by cancer.
Relay participants will walk the track, which will be lined with fundraising booths, activities, games, food and live entertainment.
First responders who assisted with the West Maui fires have been invited to the relay’s Cancer Survivors Dinner hosted by Captain Jack’s Island Grill and Cool Cat Cafe.
At nightfall, around 8 p.m., a Luminaria Lantern Ceremony begins. Lanterns with personalized dedications honoring loved ones touched by cancer will be placed on the relay track and set aglow.
Entertainers and musicians including: DJ Darryll Nae’ole; ʻukulele soloist, Brett Moore; Keoni’s Hot Lava Zumba; U-Jam with Marissa Maddela; and dancers from the Sheraton Maui Nui Lūʻau will keep the energy up throughout the night.
All proceeds raised by the Relay for Life of West Maui teams will go to support the American Cancer Society’s Cancer programs and services. Services for Maui County residents include ground and air transportation to cancer treatments, and free lodging at the Clarence T.C. Ching Hope Lodge Hawaiʻi, free wigs as well as cancer information and support.
