No Tsunami Threat From Series of Large Canadian Quakes
Three powerful earthquakes hit the Canadian coastline off British Columbia on Oct. 21, 2018.
The first quake, reported by the U.S. Geological Survey as magnitude 6.6, hit at 7:39 p.m. HST, about 120 miles SW of Port Hardy in NE Vancouver Island.
Forty minutes later, a 6.8 struck the same area.
Six minutes later, the third quake, this one 6.5, was measured in the same area.
The series of quakes was too far from land to cause any damages and did not trigger a tsunami.
If a tsunami had been generated, the public would have been notified immediately.
