Upcountry Sustainability Expo
Come and get the latest information available on the art and science of sustainability. Over 30 vendors are participating, including Maui Biodiesel, First Wind, Maui Electric, and the Dept. of Water Supply. The U.S. Dept. of Agriculture, The University of Hawaii, and the D. T. Fleming Arboretum will give practical advice regarding sustainable opportunities for individuals such as composting, community gardens, and organic gardening. Learn about the exciting world of self-sustainability through home wind and solar power production from Rising Sun, Maui Energy Company, and NHu Energy. There will also be electric cars on display.
Presentations include a blessing by renowned Hawaiian cultural leader Kimokeo Kapahulehua at 10:00 a.m.; Governor Lingle’s Maui representative, George Kaya, will speak at 10:30 a.m. regarding the State’s sustainability initiatives; and Maui County Mayor Charmaine Tavares will discuss her administration’s commitment to renewable energy at 1:00 p.m.
Drawings for free prizes, food, and live entertainment from 1:15 to 2:00 p.m. by Louise & Ortiz round out this important, not-to-be-missed event.
The Expo is presented by the Kula Community Association and the Sustainable Living Institute of Maui, and is sponsored by First wind, The Dowling Company, and Shell Wind.
