LETTER: Trucks Detouring Through Wailuku Side Streets

All day long trucks drive in the middle of this small side street rumbling through this once quiet neighborhood. This street even has speed bumps to deter speeding of an average car but not those big, high trucks. Shouldn’t traffic be controlled better? Or a street wide enough to fit these trucks be used?  They often come three or five at a time and sit in this once quiet neighborhood.

Loads and loads of sand being hauled away. Aren’t they supposed to cover the load BEFORE they leave the job site not 400 yards down the road?  Sand flying everywhere. People are complaining-lots of them. Who is monitoring?

One answer we got was that the small side streets are used so traffic is not blocking the main road. There isn’t a lot of traffic on Liholiho Street.  Maybe its the traffic they are creating that is causing the traffic problems. Maybe better coordination? Maybe waiting at the harbor? Why block three roads all day with constant noise?

The houses stopped vibrating so no more leaking pipes and shaking dishes. Thank you. The question is what are we to endure next?  I hope the county is making sufficient parking for the new building.  The top half of the streets are already lined with overflow cars. Will the neighborhood now be flooded with cars and we can no longer enjoy even our own front yards?

This neighborhood was once a quiet neighborhood. Families with children and working people all used to walk safely down the street. Seniors practicing tap dancing and socializing. Quiet! Where has the safety and quiet gone? Where did our once quiet neighborhood go?
