The average price in Kahului is $4.49, one cent less than last week and 33 cents lower than a year ago.

Hawaiʻi gas prices moved up slightly in most areas over the past week, according to the AAA Hawaiʻi Weekend Gas Watch. The statewide average price for regular unleaded is $4.60, one cent higher than last week and 18 cents lower than a year ago. The national average gas price is $3.19, two cents lower than last week. 

Maui motorists are paying about seven cents more, on average, for an unleaded gallon of gas, compared with the “pain at the pump” for drivers statewide, according to AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch. The average price in Kahului was $4.69 as of this morning, and it was $4.62 statewide.

The average price of a regular unleaded gas in Kahului dropped 4 cents in a week to $4.81 per gallon as of Thursday, AAA Hawaiʻi reported. The current price is the same as last month and 11 cents lower than a year ago.

In Kahului, the average price of $4.81 is one cent higher than last week, one cent higher than last month, and 24 cents lower than a year ago.

Gas prices in most of Hawaiʻi dropped again over the past week and were overall lower for 2023 than last year, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch.

n Kahului, the average price for regular unleaded gas per gallon is $5.26, which is one cent lower than last week, eight cents lower than last month and 79 cents higher than a year ago.

“Hawaiʻi has moved from having the sixth most expensive gas in the US to the third most expensive after dramatic gas price drops in West Coast states brought all of them lower than Hawaiʻi’s average price except for Alaska and California,” said Liane Sumida, AAA Hawaiʻi general manager.

In September 2022, only 5% of Maui Now survey respondents reported that the quality of public education in Hawaiʻi has improved, 29% said the quality stayed about the same, and 67% said that quality declined.

In Kahului, the average price of a gallon of regular unleaded gas now is $5.42, which is 17 cents lower than last month but still $1.31 per gallon higher than a year ago.

The average price for a gallon of unleaded gas in Kahului is $5.51, 21 cents lower than last month.

There were 58 gas thefts from Jan. 1 to July 7 this year — up from only 14 gas thefts over the same period last year, data shows. 

In Kahului, the average price is $5.32, which is two cents higher than last week, 45 cents higher than last month, and $1.55 higher than a year ago.

Maui Now received 544 verified responses with 90% identifying as Maui County residents and 10% identifying as non-residents. A total of 86% of respondents identified as registered voters and 14% as non-registered voters.

Hawaiʻi’s average gas prices have remained flat in January because of rising oil prices being muted by concerns over how the Omicron variant of COVID-19 may affect demand and tourism, according to the AAA Hawaiʻi Weekend Gas Watch. 

Heading into the Memorial Day weekend for travel, gas prices for Hawaiʻi continued to climb, reaching levels not seen since November 2014, according to the AAA Hawaiʻi Weekend Gas Watch.

In Kahului, the average price is $3.58, which is four cents lower than last Thursday, 16 cents lower than a month ago and16 cents lower than on this date a year ago.

In Kahului on Maui, the average price today is $3.83, which is the same as last Thursday, also the same as a month ago and eight cents higher than on this date a year ago.

In Kahului, the average price is $3.85, which is two cents lower than last Thursday, one cent higher than a month ago and 28 cents lower than on this date a year ago.
