Gov. Josh Green, whose mother-in-law died before signing up for a Hawaiian homestead award, will give a keynote address at the upcoming Hawaiian Home Lands Sovereignty Conference in Honolulu, running June 2-4.

The Sovereign Council of Hawaiian Homestead Associations (SCHHA) is partnering with the Association of Hawaiians for Homestead Lands (AHHL-Waitlist), both beneficiary organizations registered with the United States Department of Interior. These statewide homestead associations will work with the Hawaiʻi State Legislature in an effort to enact two administrative amendments to the Hawaiian Homes Commission Act of 1920.

The Association of Hawaiians for Homestead Lands hosts a virtual national briefing about the Beneficiary $600 Million Spending Plan for Act 279 on Wednesday night, Dec. 21 from 6 to 8 p.m.

Congressman Kaialiʻi Kahele announced today the introduction of the Prince Jonah Kūhiō Kalanianaʻole Protecting Family Legacies Act, bipartisan legislation that ensures long-term tenancy to beneficiaries of the Hawaiian Homes Commissions Act (HHCA) and their successors. H.J. Res. 55, reduces the successorship qualification of a lessee’s spouse, children, grandchildren and brothers or sisters from one quarter to one thirty-second Hawaiian.

Regardless of whether or not the Governor signs this measure into law, Ailā, Jr. said, “the Hawaiian Homes Commission and its beneficiaries will chart the path forward in generating revenue from available lands to develop future homesteads.”

Hawaiian homestead leaders, Henderson Kainoa Huihui and Faisha Solomon will headline the 100th anniversary of the 1921 Hawaiian Homes Commission Act at this year’s 2021 Maui Centennial Puwalu – or conference.
