“I’m really pleased. From the first photographs I saw it looked like everything was gone and that’s not the case. There are important historic buildings here that I think can be repaired,” said State Historic Preservation Division Administrator Dr. Alan Downer.

These funds will be used to complete a building assessment of the stone and coral block structure, built in 1835 in Lahaina. The assessment will result in a prioritized, cost-estimated list of preservation needs for the building.

Jim Kingwell’s watercolor, Village by the Sea, was chosen by juror, George Allen, as the winner of the 31st annual Lahaina Poster contest during the recent Friday Night is Art Night in Lahaina.

On June 15th of last year, a vehicle crashed into the exterior wall, damaging a buttress before leaving the scene. The damage scattered the coral blocks, which were originally part of the fort at Lahaina Harbor.
