Hawaiʻi State Junior Lifeguard Championships return to Kā‘anapali, Aug. 9
Hawai‘i’s largest Junior Lifeguard championship to date returns to Kā‘anapali Beach on Maui on Saturday Aug. 9. More than 120 of Hawai‘i’s most promising young ocean leaders will gather from across the islands to compete, showcasing their lifesaving skills, ocean knowledge, athleticism and teamwork.
Maui Fourth of July public fireworks display; reminders of firework rules and safety tips
A public aerial fireworks show for the Fourth of July will take place at 8 o’clock tonight (July 4), offshore of the Grand Wailea at 3850 Wailea Alanui Drive in Kīhei. The Grand Wailea has reported that the show will last approximately 15 minutes.
Four recruits graduate joining the ranks of the Maui Ocean Safety Bureau
Makai Farm, Harrison Cannon, James McNeil and Jacob Jacinto completed the 12-week training program. Cannon was given the award for the Best Overall Recruit. The “Surf 50” award, created in memory of fallen Ocean Safety Officer Randy Hillen, was given to Jacinto.

Maui Mayor Richard Bissen proclaimed Thursday as Maui Fire Department Centennial Day, recognizing the departmentʻs century of service responding to fires, floods and other emergencies.
HCF, Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez donate $2.128M to purchase fire trucks for the Maui County Fire Department
The Hawai‘i Community Foundation announced a $2.128 million grant to the Daniel R. Sayre Memorial Foundation. The total award amount comprises $1 million from HCF’s Maui Strong Fund and $1.128 million donated by Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez. The new trucks will have the ability to drive off-pavement, allowing crews to better reach wildfires early and prevent them from spreading.

The County of Maui Department of Fire and Public Safety added two new Ocean Safety officers to their force after the graduation of Recruit Class 7.

Molokaʻi firefighters responded to five separate brush fires, all around 200 to 300 yards apart, along the Maunaloa Highway at 5:41 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2016.
