MECO Crews Investigate Huelo to Hana Power Outage

Maui Electric customers from Huelo to Hana, with the exception of approximately 80 customers in Nahiku have been restored to power. MECO crews have begun work to bring these customers back online as soon as possible.

Maui Electric workers continued their inspection of the Hana transmission line until night set in on Thursday, April 14, 2011. Crews were unable to identify the problem before nightfall, and customers from Huelo to Hana town remained without power into the night. Hana town is being powered by two distributed generators. Crews will return at first light to continue their investigation and conduct an aerial inspection of the line.
MECO apologized for the inconvenience. Affected customers are reminded to unplug appliances and equipment, keep refrigerator doors closed to keep food cold, and avoid cooking indoors with an open flame. Customers are urged to use flashlights instead of candles during outages.

The area from Huelo until Hana town is currently without power. Hana generating units are providing power to residents and businesses in Hana town.
The cause of the outage is unknown at this time as MECO troublemen continue to investigate.
