Rough Riders Kapono, Cruz, and Noland Return to The MACC

The Maui Arts & Cultural Center is bringing three of Hawai‘i’s favorite musicians to the Castle Theater on Friday, Jan. 30, at 7:30 p.m. The trio includes Henry Kapono, John Cruz, and Brother Noland, collectively appearing as The Rough Riders.

The three singer-songwriters each bring a unique voice to their complementary blend of guitars, which together, create an exceptional style of music.

The Rough Riders will bring new sounds to the stage, as well as perform classic hits like “Friends,” “Coconut Girl,” and “Island Style.”

Kapono is an award-winning Hawai‘i music icon and Grammy-nominated musician. “The Wild Hawaiian,” has remained on the leading edge of the local music scene for the last several decades. His hit songs include “Friend.s” “Sailing,” “Highway in the Sun,” “Stand in the Light,” “Home in the Islands,” and “Dukes on Sunday.” Kapono’s latest CD release is “Dukes On Sunday 2,” a tribute to his well-known Sunday afternoon performances at Duke’s in Waikiki.

John Cruz is a Grammy award winner hailing from one of Hawai‘i’s well-known musical families. He was named “Best Singer/Songwriter in Hawai‘i” in 2008 by Hawai‘i Magazine and his album, “One of These Days” was listed as one of Hawai‘i’s greatest albums of the new century by Honolulu Magazine. Cruz often partners with fellow songwriter Jack Johnson on stage, and has performed for the president. His hit songs include “Island Style,” “Shine On,” and “Sitting in Limbo.”

Brother Noland is a pioneering musician in Hawai‘i’s music scene who is often credited with birthing “Jawaiian music.” His popular song, “Coconut Girl,” was a smash hit throughout the islands and the country. Noland enjoys feel-good tunes in the genres of traditional Hawaiian, slack key, and Hawaiian swing music, and also dedicates his time to educating children about sustainable living. His other hit songs include “Big Ship,” and “Pua Lane.”
