Grow Some Good Fundraising Dinner Friday
By Vanessa Wolf
This Friday at 6:30 p.m., Grow Some Good’s school garden inspired dinner series continues.
This time, plan to enjoy Spago’s sunset ocean views along with cuisine from Chef Cameron Lewark and his team.
Guests will enjoy drinks at sunset, a four course meal with wine pairings and one amazing evening dubbed a “Babbette’s Feast” by last yearʻs attendees.
Organizer Kirk Surry reports that the planned menu starts with a Thai scallop sashimi with spicy green curry and lemongrass vinaigrette.
It’s followed by a basil ravioli with Surfing Goat cheese and heirloom tomatoes.
The main entrée presents a duo of local fish with parsnip puree, bacon confit, roasted Kula onions and mushroom nage alongside grilled prime beef with horseradish puree and Béarnaise sauce.
Dessert features an Upcountry banana cream pie made with puff pastry, bananas, crème brûlée, vanilla bean whipped cream and chocolate sauce.
Grow Some Good is a non-profit project dedicated to creating hands-on, outdoor learning experiences that cultivate curiosity about natural life cycles, connect students to their food sources, and inspire better nutrition choices.
The initial project started at Kihei Elementary School, where according to co-founder Surry “it has grown from just three beds and one teacher to a quarter acre with almost a thousand students involved.”
In six years, Grow Some Good has flourished to reach nearly 2000 kids at five area schools, claims Surry.
In addition to helping establish food gardens and living science labs in local schools, Grow Some Good provides resources and curriculum support in agriculture, science, food education and nutrition.
This Grow Some Good benefit dinner is $122 per person and is being held at Spago at Four Seasons Resort Maui.
Proceeds benefit the elementary and middle school students who participate in Grow Some Good garden programs in South and Central Maui.
Seating is limited, and reservations can be made by calling 808-874-8000.
