Maui police say the female remains found in a vehicle off of the Kahekili Highway on Saturday are those of Jean Kini Chang, a Wailea woman who was previously reported as missing.

The positive identification was released today following further police investigation, said Lt. William Juan.

Earlier this week, police confirmed that the 2005 BMW model Z4 belonged to Chang, but at the time, had not positively identified the body within or the cause of death.

The vehicle was located 100 feet down a ravine near mile post 10 of the Kahekili Highway at around 1:26 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014.

Cause of death has not been determined as the medical examiner’s report has not been filed yet, according to Lt. Juan.  Detectives had ruled out any type of foul play through investigation earlier this week.
