A Brown Water Advisory remains in effect for the State of Hawaiʻi following heavy rains on Thursday.
The advisory was initially issued on Aug. 24, 2015, but remained in effect at last report due to ongoing heavy rains that have resulted in storm water runoff entering into coastal waters.
Flash flooding conditions on Maui on Thursday, Sept. 3, left coastal waters in Central Maui turbid and brown
The public is advised to stay out of flood waters and storm water runoff due to possible overflowing cesspools, sewer, manholes, pesticides, animal fecal matter, dead animals, pathogens, chemicals, and associated flood debris, according to the advisory issued by the state Department of Health.
Agency officials advise that not all coastal areas may be impacted by runoff; however, if the water is brown the public should stay out.
