Annual St. Joseph’s Feast Starts Friday
By Vanessa Wolf
Dating back to 1905, when parishioners first got together to raise funds to build the current church, the annual St. Joseph’s Feast begins tomorrow, May 1, at 6 p.m.
Per the name, the feast offers malasadas, Portuguese soup, waffle dogs, chow fun, nachos, BBQ teriyaki, hamburgers, as well as “lots of sweets and treats.”
Continuing through Sunday afternoon, anticipate games, crafts, bouncy castles and a country store offering plants, produce and flowers.
Admission is free and your purchases go to fund community programs such as feeding the homeless, distribution food boxes to those in need and financial assistance to those in crisis. Profits are also being applied to the fundraising effort for the new multipurpose center, which will replace “the dilapidated gym that is currently used for the Early Center and community functions.”
The feast begins tomorrow, May 1 from 6 to 10 p.m. and continues Saturday, May 2, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday, May 3, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
St. Joseph Church & Early Learning Center is located at 1294 Makawao Avenue in Makawao.
