The Environmental Impact Statement Preparation Notice for the Kaheawa Wind 1 Continued Use Project has been published and is now accepting public review and comment through Nov. 22.

The Mākena Mauka land plan covers approximately 1,041 acres and proposes 850 to 900 new homes in an area long identified for residential/resort residential uses but that is currently largely vacant.

Members of the public are invited to attend one or more of three scoping meetings May 13-15. The proposed facility would consist of up to seven telescopes enclosed in domes that would be constructed on a developed site adjacent to the Haleakalā Observatory. on FAA-managed land.
