Committee to review proposed charter amendments for upcoming ballot

The Government Relations, Ethics and Transparency Committee will discuss whether to provide comments or suggest alternatives to the Charter Commission’s proposed charter amendments on Monday, Feb. 28, 2022 at 9 a.m.

Mayor Victorino Calls Charter Amendments “Reckless”; Councilmember Calls Mayor’s Statements “Overly Dramatic”

Mayor Michael Victorino issued a statement last night, strongly opposing two proposed amendments by the County Council’s Governance, Ethics and Transparency Committee, calling the items “reckless.” Meantime, council members defended their proposals with one member calling the Mayor’s statements “overly dramatic.”

Molina’s Bill Seeks to Stiffen Penalties for Unlicensed Bike Tours Operations on Maui

Bill 50, was introduced by Councilmember Michael J. Molina and seeks to double current penalties. The bill would increase penalties for a lack of prominent display of the permit to “not less than $20 nor more than $100” and increase penalties for operating without a permit to “not less than $200 nor more than $1,000.” Both fines double the current penalty amounts.

Molina Leads New Affordable Housing Bill

The bill aims to require that 201H affordable housing projects submitted to the county must consist of a minimum of 75 percent of the total units for individuals and families within very low, low, low-moderate, and moderate-income households.
