Update: Maui Fire Department Suspends Search for Missing Snorkeler in Mākena

After three full days of searching, the Maui Fire Department suspended its search for a missing snorkeler who was last seen on Tuesday afternoon in waters off of Mākena in South Maui.

The search by land and sea continues for a missing snorkeler in waters off of South Maui, south of the Fairmont Kea Lani hotel and makai of Mākena Road.

The search concluded at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 17 after four days of searching that included over 122 hours and 825 square miles covered.

Body of Missing Snorkeler Recovered from Nāpili

The 78-year-old man from Carlsbad, CA, was reported missing when he failed to return as planned to meet family members at 4 p.m., said Maui Fire Captain Bram DenHaan.

UPDATE: Body of Missing Snorkeler Recovered off Kāʻanapali

Maui police have since identified the body of a missing snorkeler found in waters off of West Maui this morning as Son Vo, 41, of Oakland California. Police have classified the incident as a miscellaneous fatality, and say there were no signs of criminal activity surrounding Vo’s death.

Search Underway for Missing Snorkeler Near Molokini

The 56-year-old man was last seen at around 5:30 p.m. wearing a white rash guard and board shorts, according to authorities.
