Salary Commission votes to raise Mayor’s salary, but dials back pay for managing director and deputy
This morning the Maui County Salary Commission rescinded its two-week-old decision on pay raises for the mayor, managing director and deputy managing director. Then, it recalibrated raises for those top leadership positions, using as a benchmark a recent Hawaiʻi State Salary Commission pay raise for Gov. Josh Green.
Ceremony, candlelight vigil to honor victims during National Crime Victims’ Rights Week
The County of Maui Department of the Prosecuting Attorney will commemorate National Crime Victims’ Rights Week by holding a ceremony and candlelight vigil on April 24 to promote community awareness of crime victims’ rights and available services.

Charter Commission Acts on Proposals Governing Police and the Executive Branch
A proposal dividing the Department of Housing and Human Concerns into two distinct departments was adopted, as was one recommending the appointment of Corporation Counsel and the Prosecuting Attorney from a short list of nominees selected by an independent selection commission. Seven proposals were deferred to the next meeting due to time limitations.
Nominee for Maui Prosecuting Attorney to be Vetted Tuesday
The Maui County Council’s Government Relations, Ethics and Transparency Committee will meet Tuesday at 9 a.m. to vet the nomination of Andrew H. Martin for prosecuting attorney.
Rise Up Rally Monday, Wong Decision Due on Tuesday
Meantime, a demonstration rally against domestic violence called Rise Up Maui will be held this morning at the University of Hawaiʻi Maui College as government leaders proclaim this month, Sexual Assault Awareness Month in Hawaiʻi. Rally organizers say they will join this event to demand action from leaders in the case involving Wong.
