The 2023 Festivals of Aloha culminates this month with the 21st Richard Ho‘opi‘i Falsetto Contest on Saturday, and events next week on the island of Molokaʻi.

The 21st annual Richard Ho‘opi‘i Leo Kiʻekiʻe Falsetto Contest is seeking contestants. The contest will be held at the Ritz-Carlton Maui, Kapalua Saturday, Sept. 23, 2023 at 6 p.m. Applicants may apply online by Sept. 8, 2023.

In celebration of 20 years of the Richard Hoʻopi‘i Leo Ki’eki’e Falsetto Contest, Festivals of Aloha along with Haku Records present a legacy music project entitled, ʻHawaiian Falsetto Vol 1ʻ. The compilation features contest champions, judges and even a song from the namesake himself, Richard Ho‘opi‘i.

Kamaehu Kawa‘a earned the championship title at the 19th annual Richard Hoʻopiʻi Leo Kiʻekiʻe Falsetto Contest, held Saturday, Sept. 18 at the Ritz-Carlton Kapalua. The competition featured five contestants showcasing their high-register voices in the unique style of falsetto.

The 19th Richard Ho‘opi‘i Leo Kiʻekiʻe Falsetto Contest is seeking contestants. The contest will be live-streamed from the Ritz-Carlton Kapalua Saturday, Sept. 18, 2021 at 6 p.m.

Mauiʻs own Ikaika Mendez is the newest winner of the annual Richard Hoʻopiʻi Leo Ki’eki’e Falsetto Contest.

The 18th annual Uncle Richard Hoʻopiʻi Leo Kiʻekiʻe competition will be held on Sept. 14 at the Ritz Carlton Kapalua. The competition will begin at 6:30 pm.

Services for beloved Hawaiian music entertainer, Uncle Richard Hoʻopiʻi, will be held on Saturday March 24, 2018 at War Memorial Gymnasium from 3 to 9 p.m.
