Maui police issued a total of 813 citations, 633 of them for speeding, during the week-long Operation SPEED campaign that began on Monday, July 21 and concluded on Saturday, July 26, 2014.

Maui police begin a week-long speeding enforcement campaign today in an effort to reduce speed-related crashes in Maui County.

The fines for driving over the speed limit are estimated at around $122 for driving 11 mph over the limit; $142 for driving 15 mph over the limit; and $167 for driving 20 mph over the limit.

Maui police issued a total of 634 tickets, 530 of them for speeding during the recent Operation SPEED traffic enforcement campaign last week.

Maui police will be increasing speeding enforcement, education and patrols during a week-long campaign that runs from July 22-26 on all major Maui roadways, police said.

With an estimated 2,000 calls for service monthly, Kihei police are trying to meet increased demands. A new South Maui police station and a new bicycle patrol program are just two of the projects on the horizon. The items were discussed during the latest MPD Town Hall meeting in Kihei.
