Maui Invitational faces challenges from Las Vegas college basketball tournament offering big money

After a landscape-changing announcement on Monday morning of a $50 million NIL agreement between the Big 12 Conference and the Players Era Festival in Las Vegas, Dr. Tom Buning, Chaminade director of athletics, acknowledged they may have to consider the same to keep the Southwest Maui Invitational college basketball tournament that Chaminade hosts annually at the Lahaina Civic Center in the mix of top early-season multi-team event tournament destinations.

This yearʻs field for the Southwest Maui Invitation also includes No. 25 North Carolina State, Seton Hall, Southern California, Boise State, Arizona State and Texas.
