This Saturday, Maui Humane Society will host a Wags ‘n Wheels pet adoption event in partnership with Servco Subaru Maui from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Servco Subaru Maui dealership. The event aims to help pets find ‘furever homes’ in recognition of the one-year anniversary of the Lahaina wildfires, which displaced hundreds of pets in the community.

Between May 1 to May 15, adoption fees at all Maui Humane Society adoption locations will be reduced in price. The “Empty the Shelter” event is part of a national effort that’s helped more than 226,000 pets find loving homes since 2016.

The turtles were raised at the Maui Ocean Center and were “an essential part of the aquarium’s educational program to teach guests about Hawai‘i’s sea turtles.”

After two years of growing and helping to educate visitors to Maui Ocean Center, six Hawaiian green sea turtles are released to the ocean for the first time.

The Maui Ocean Center will be “shell-a-brating” 17 years of commitment to Hawaiʻi’s marine life on Friday, March 13, with a variety of activities and events. The public is invited to enjoy live entertainment, hula, up-close turtle encounters, interactive presentations, a cooking demonstration, keiki crafts, complimentary cake while supplies last, and more.

Combining his passion for wildlife and photography, marine naturalist John O’Leary captures vibrant images of the world beneath Maui’s surface.

At around 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 22, an estimated 75 green sea turtles were observed inside of Pier 1 near the Wailuku-Kahului Wastewater Reclamation Facility.
