Crews from the Maui Department of Fire and Public Safety responded to multiple calls for assistance and flooding due to heavy rains reported early on Sunday morning, Nov. 10, 2013.

The National Weather Service is forecasting possible brief heavy showers on Saturday afternoon, with the greatest potential for flash flooding occurring tonight.

Flood Warning Cancelled, Flood Watch Remains

A flash flood watch remains in effect for all of the Hawaiian Islands through this afternoon. According to forecasters with the NWS, “a trough aloft will keep the atmosphere unstable, and moisture will continue to ride in on the southeast flow. Heavy showers may move over Maui County from the south. Daytime heating may help heavy showers form over interior areas of the Islands this afternoon.”

CANCELLED: Flood Advisory Issued for Maui

The flood advisory for Maui was cancelled at 9:32 a.m. Officials from the National Weather service say updated radar images show that the moderate to heavy rains have abated.

Clogged Stream Sends Flood Waters to Maui Meadows Home

“The build up of green waste in the stream bed, caused the stream to clog and divert from its normal path,” said Maui Fire Services Chief Lee Mainaga.

Waterline Breaks Upcountry, Customers Urged to Conserve Water

Water customers in Upcountry, Maui are being urged to conserve water following a waterline break caused by heavy rains earlier today. Jacky Takakura, Administrative Officer for the Maui Department of Water Supply said the 12-inch waterline washed out during the heavy rains in the area.

Flood Warning Issued for Maui

A Flood Warning for the island of Maui has been extended until midnight as heavy rain continues to affect Upcountry and East Maui. At 8:42 p.m., radar continued to show heavy showers along the windward slopes of Haleakala.

Heavy Rains Flood Living Way Church in Happy Valley

An estimated 3 feet of water had flooded the backyard area of the building, and about 6 inches of water was found in the basement of the building.

Forecasters from the National Weather Service said radar at 1:06 p.m. showed passing moderate to heavy showers moving over the east and southeast slopes of Haleakala. Rain was also falling i the up-slope region from Kipahulu to Hamoa and Hana.
