Kūlanihākoʻi High School in Kīhei will officially open next month. The $245 million state-of-the art campus will open in August with a temporary certificate of occupancy.

The opening of the new Kūlanihāko‘i High School campus in Kīhei is delayed due to outstanding issues related to requirements for a grade-separated pedestrian crossing across the Pi‘ilani Highway to access the campus.

Construction of the upper campus of the beautiful new Kīhei High School is expected to finally be completed enough to open in January for a small inaugural class of ninth graders, but the lack of a state-mandated grade-separated crossing may delay the opening.

A blessing was held at the site of the new Kīhei High School in South Maui. The future high school is anticipated to open for the 2021-22 school year.

The House Finance Committee voted to appropriate $37.5 million for the second phase of construction on the upcoming Kīhei High School, marking the single largest Department of Education appropriation in the House Budget.

The state’s largest design firm, Group 70 International Inc. has been selected as the architect, planner, and civil engineer of record for Kīhei’s future high school.

After decades of petitioning and planning, the long-awaited Kīhei High School in South Maui broke ground off Pi‘ilani Highway at 9 a.m. this morning, Monday, Jan. 11.

Discussion on the planned Kīhei High School will take place at an upcoming meeting of the Kīhei Community Association on Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2014. A panel of consultants and lawmakers to field questions about the progress of the project and associated improvements.

“Even if no money is added, $65,000,000 is much more than enough to get the tractors out and dust fences up by next Fall,” said Rep. Ing.

The school will serve grades 9 to 12 in the South Maui Region, and is designed to support an enrollment capacity of 1,650 students, and approximately 206 supporting staff and faculty.

The school is designed to accommodate an estimated 1,650 students and approximately 206 associated faculty and staff for grades 9 to 12.

The State of Hawaii, Department of Education, proposes to develop the new high school on approximately 77 acres of undeveloped land, mauka of Piilani Highway. The proposed site is located across from the Piilani Village residential subdivision in the Kihei-Makena region.
