#Summit Haleakala

With 10 days left to go, Kahului is already experiencing its wettest month ever, according to the National Weather Service. The NWS Honolulu office released a chart showing the top 10 wettest months all time. So far this month, through March 21, Kahului has already seen 19.92 inches of rain.

The Summit District of Haleakalā National Park has reopened. The Headquarters Visitor Center at 7,000 feet is open until 4:30 p.m. 

around two to three tenths of an inch are in the forecast, with winds gusting as high as 60 mph.

Managers from the Hawaiʻi Emergency Management Agency are urging the public to exercise caution amid risks statewide of flooding, landslides and gusty winds.

The National Park Service and Haleakalā National Park provided tips from park rangers for people planning to visit the park for a memorable and safe experience.

Work will begin on restroom improvements in the Summit District at Park Headquarters Visitor Center located at 7,000 feet.

As of 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 3, 2016; the backcountry area of Haleakalā National Park reopened at the Summit. Visitors should expect rainy, wet and possibly windy conditions.

The Haleakalā Visitor Center, located at the 9,741 foot elevation on the crater rim, will close for door repairs on Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2016, and will remain closed for four weeks, park officials announced.

Park rangers advise that visitors should be aware that they will encounter long lines at the park entrance station, and also advise that there is limited parking at the summit itself.

Road work begins at 8 a.m. today, Monday, Oct. 5, in the Summit District of Haleakalaā National Park, and continues through Wednesday, Oct. 7. Sunrise and sunset viewing and parking will not be impacted.

A power outage is planned at Haleakalā National Park today between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. while crews from Maui Electric Company conduct maintenance work.

The Headquarters Visitor Center passenger car parking lot, at Haleakalā National Park will be closed from 7:30 a.m. on Monday, July 29 through August 13, 2013, park officials announced.

Funding for the project was announced a year ago when congressional leaders said $2 million in federal grant funds was being released for the refurbishment of seven parking lots in the summit area.

The park is offering free admission Monday through Friday in observance of the week-long event. Free programs are also being offered in both the Summit and Kīpahulu Districts.

The National Weather Service issued a High Wind Watch for the summit of Haleakala on Maui and the summits of Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa on the Big Island.
