The National Weather Service has extended a Flood Advisory for the island of Maui until 1:30 p.m. At 11:13 a.m., radar continued to show heavy rain over north facing slopes of Haleakalā, including the Hāna Highway.

Trace levels of selenium have been detected for the first time in water samples during routine water testing of the Lahaina Water System, which services Lahaina, Honokōwai and Nāpili, according to the County of Maui Department of Water Supply.

The state water commission is trying to decide who should get permits to use water in West Maui, with 93 existing use permits and 48 new applications under review.

The West Maui service area includes Lahaina, Kāʻanapali, Kahana, Māhinahina, Nāpili-Honokōwai, and Honokōhau. West Maui is experiencing continued dry weather and lack of rainfall. Therefore, the existing water shortage is being upgraded to a Stage 2 for West Maui until water source levels are adequate to meet demand. 

The County of Maui’s Department of Environmental Management reported that a wastewater spill of approximately 17,000 gallons occurred on Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2025 at 4554 Lower Honoapi‘ilani Highway, Nāpili.  Officials say the spill occurred due to a mechanical failure at the Nāpili pump station # 3. 

Hawaiian Electric will continue to use unmanned aircraft, or drones, for aerial inspections of its infrastructure in Nāpili and Pu‘ukoli‘i on Thursday, May 8, as well as in Kula on Friday, May 9, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on both days, weather permitting. 

The shutdown will affect services on Lower Honoapiʻilani Road from Bay Club Place including Hui Drive and Hui Road.

To maintain reliable service, Hawaiian Electric contractors will be performing tree trimming along Nāpili Place in the West Maui area on Monday, April 7, from 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Maui County Council members passed on first reading Friday morning a bill that sets aside $650,000 from the Affordable Housing Fund as a grant to A0746 Lahaina L.P. for pre-development costs for a project in Nāpili.

The Lahaina Town Cleanup returns for its 20th year on Saturday, Sept. 28, 2024, from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. The cleanup is an opportunity for residents and visitors alike to join in a global effort to remove litter and debris from the coast.

The event will take place at the Napili Kai Beach Resort’s Aloha Pavilion on Sunday, April 28, from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.

(11:47 a.m. 2.29.24) The Hawaiʻi Emergency Management Agency reports there is no emergency after a siren in the Nāpili area of Maui was accidentally activated while technicians were working in the Kahana area. Again, there is no emergency.

Holy Innocents Episcopal Church, formerly on Front Street in Lahaina Town and destroyed by the fire, announced the start of regular services at 8 a.m. every Sunday in Nāpili.

Hawaiian Electric is continuing restoration work to rebuild portions of the electric system in Lahaina in an effort to ensure safe and reliable power to all West Maui customers following the August 2023 wildfires. Ongoing restoration efforts include the rebuilding of transmission and distribution lines along former routes in the Lahaina area with the installation of new interim steel poles and electrical equipment.

The Department of Water Supply is asking residents of Nāpili-Honokōwai and Honokōhau Valley in West Maui to conserve water because of a power outage this morning in the Nāpili area.

Maui County Council is considering whether to pursue an investigation into the administration’s handling of a large home in Nāpili, which has been called “monstrous” and “illegal” by neighboring residents. The unfinished, eight-bedroom home came under fire last year when it climbed toward 45 feet tall. Some residents have been questioning how the county signed off on the plans without community input.

Goodfellow Bros. LLC performs construction along Lower Honoapiʻilani Road for the reconstruction of the Kahana Nui Bridge and underground utility installation. Work will occur approximately from Jan. 3 to September 2022.

The playground at Nāpili Park will be closed from Jan. 13 through March 15, 2020, for the Nāpili Playground Shade Structure project.

An 11-year-old boy died following a miscellaneous accident reported earlier this month in West Maui.

The Nāpili Park Playground in West Maui is closed while crews complete repairs due to vandalism reported at the facility.
