Update: Maui Flood Advisory extended to 1:30 p.m.

The National Weather Service has extended a Flood Advisory for the island of Maui until 1:30 p.m. At 11:13 a.m., radar continued to show heavy rain over north facing slopes of Haleakalā, including the Hāna Highway.

Trace levels of selenium detected in Lahaina Water System

Trace levels of selenium have been detected for the first time in water samples during routine water testing of the Lahaina Water System, which services Lahaina, Honokōwai and Nāpili, according to the County of Maui Department of Water Supply.

Stage 2 water shortage in effect for West Maui

The West Maui service area includes Lahaina, Kāʻanapali, Kahana, Māhinahina, Nāpili-Honokōwai, and Honokōhau. West Maui is experiencing continued dry weather and lack of rainfall. Therefore, the existing water shortage is being upgraded to a Stage 2 for West Maui until water source levels are adequate to meet demand. 

17,000 gallon wastewater spill in Nāpili caused by mechanical failure at pump station

The County of Maui’s Department of Environmental Management reported that a wastewater spill of approximately 17,000 gallons occurred on Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2025 at 4554 Lower Honoapi‘ilani Highway, Nāpili.  Officials say the spill occurred due to a mechanical failure at the Nāpili pump station # 3. 

HECO to use drones for inspections in Nāpili, Puʻukoliʻi, Kula on May 8-9

Hawaiian Electric will continue to use unmanned aircraft, or drones, for aerial inspections of its infrastructure in Nāpili and Pu‘ukoli‘i on Thursday, May 8, as well as in Kula on Friday, May 9, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on both days, weather permitting. 

Water service outage scheduled overnight in Nāpili

The shutdown will affect services on Lower Honoapiʻilani Road from Bay Club Place including Hui Drive and Hui Road.

Nāpili Place traffic to be impacted due to tree trimming, April 7

To maintain reliable service, Hawaiian Electric contractors will be performing tree trimming along Nāpili Place in the West Maui area on Monday, April 7, from 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

HI-EMA: Nāpili siren accidentally activated; there is no emergency

(11:47 a.m. 2.29.24) The Hawaiʻi Emergency Management Agency reports there is no emergency after a siren in the Nāpili area of Maui was accidentally activated while technicians were working in the Kahana area. Again, there is no emergency.

Six months after Lahaina wildfire, Holy Innocents restarts services in Nāpili

Holy Innocents Episcopal Church, formerly on Front Street in Lahaina Town and destroyed by the fire, announced the start of regular services at 8 a.m. every Sunday in Nāpili.

Hawaiian Electric restoration efforts continue following West Maui fire

Hawaiian Electric is continuing restoration work to rebuild portions of the electric system in Lahaina in an effort to ensure safe and reliable power to all West Maui customers following the August 2023 wildfires. Ongoing restoration efforts include the rebuilding of transmission and distribution lines along former routes in the Lahaina area with the installation of new interim steel poles and electrical equipment.

Council mulls whether massive Nāpili home warrants probe; pending suit filed against Maui County

Maui County Council is considering whether to pursue an investigation into the administration’s handling of a large home in Nāpili, which has been called “monstrous” and “illegal” by neighboring residents. The unfinished, eight-bedroom home came under fire last year when it climbed toward 45 feet tall. Some residents have been questioning how the county signed off on the plans without community input.
