A High Surf Advisory goes into effect at noon today for the North shores of Maui and Molokai.  The advisory will remain in effect until 6 a.m. Friday.

Forecasters from the National Weather Service say the large west-northwest swell is being generated by a low pressure system moving towards the Gulf of Alaska.  The swell will build on the smaller islands today bringing 15 to 20 foot surf to exposed north facing shores.

A high tide of approximately 1.6 feet is expected between 1:47 and 3:05 p.m. today. The next high tide of approximately 2.1 feet is expected between 1:01 and 2:19 a.m. Thursday.

The swell will produce rip currents and localized beach erosion.  As a precaution, beach goers are urged to stay out of the water and well away from the shore break due to hazardous wave action.
