The County of Maui is seeking the public’s help in identifying those responsible for $5,000 worth of vandalism and damage at a park under construction in South Maui.

The damage was reported last month and included graffiti on park benches, bent and removed park signs, dents to a metal door at the facility’s concession building, and broken sprinkler heads.

The damage was discovered on March 15, 2011, but park employees say the damage may have occurred the night before.

County authorities say the recent vandalism may result in delays to the park opening.  The South Maui Park is still under construction by Goodfellow Bros., Inc. and was initially scheduled for opening in June.

Anyone with information is urged to call Maui Police.
