Molokai Firefighters Respond to Two Small Brushfires

Firefighters on Molokai responded to two separate brush fire incidents on Monday afternoon, June 11, 2012.

The first was reported at 3:40 p.m. at a new subdivision in Kalamaula off of Likelike Street.

A brush fire burned an estimated three acres, mostly within a gulch, before it was extinguished at 7 p.m. last night, said fire officials.  Crews from Engine 4, Tanker 4 and Engine 9 were dispatched to the scene.

A separate fire was reported at 3:44 p.m. off of Mohala Street in Kaunakakai.

Maui Fire Services Chief Lee Mainaga said the fire started in an abandoned vehicle and spread to vegetation in the immediate area, burning a total 30 by 30 foot area.  Crews from Engine 12 responded to the scene.

The cause of both fires was undetermined; there were no injuries reported; and there were no monetary loss at either blaze.
