Maui police say three people were sent to the hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries sustained when a vehicle collided into the front entrance area of Costco in Kahului on Sunday, May 19.
According to information released this afternoon by Maui Police Officer Karen Wong, the man driving the silver Mazda vehicle mistakenly pressed the gas pedal instead of the brake, causing the vehicle to collide into numerous items near the customer entrance area of the store.
The incident was reported at 1:50 p.m. as the vehicle was headed westbound within the private parking lot of Costco, said Officer Wong.
According to police, the accident caused injuries to nearby pedestrians before colliding into the entrance of the building.
As a result of the accident, three of the four injured pedestrians were transported to the Maui Memorial Medical Center for treatment.
The incident remains under investigation.
