By Wendy Osher
Volunteers with the American Red Cross on Lānaʻi assisted residents affected by a house fire over the weekend.
Agency officials say residents were provided with essential items including clothes, food, and household items.
Authorities say caseworkers will continue to follow up with those affected in the coming weeks to provide referrals, guidance, or additional assistance.
The fire was reported at 7:45 a.m. on Saturday, August 3, 2013 on the corner of Jacaranda Street and Third Avenue.
In addition to the structure, there were three vehicles destroyed in the fire, including a new Hummer, according to fire officials.
The Red Cross issued a reminder to the public, encouraging families to make a disaster plan, including an evacuation plan with two different routes of escape, a communications plan to help families reconnect after disaster, and a disaster supplies kit that is readily available to aid in a quick evacuation.
