A bird is to blame for a power outage that affected an estimated 1,300 customers in Kahului on Saturday morning, Feb. 22, 2014.
Maui Electric Company spokesperson Kauʻi Awai-Dickson tells Maui Now that affected customers lost power at around 7:30 a.m. when a bird came into contact with a lightning arrester.
Power was restored shortly after 8 a.m., once equipment was cleared by Maui Electric crews.
Company representatives apologized for any inconvenience the situation may have caused and thanked customers for their patience and understanding.
