By Wendy Osher
Maui police are investigating the discovery of human remains found by a hunter late last night in Haʻikū as an unattended death.
Police say the discovery was made in the late evening hours on Thursday, March 27, 2014, by a local hunter in the area of Twin Falls in Haʻikū, Maui.
The hunter came across an abandoned camp site and upon checking, he located skeletal remains that he believed to be that of a human being, said Maui Police Lieutenant William Juan.
According to Juan, the hunter left the area to notify police, and returned together with authorities to help relocate the site.
Police confirmed that the human remains were discovered. Police were, however, unable to determine age or gender of the victim due to the deteriorated state of the body, said Lieutenant Juan.
The cause of death is pending further investigation.
