Maui Committee Considers Smoking Ban at Bus Stops
By Maui Now Staff
A bill that seeks a ban on smoking at county bus stops will be considered by the Housing, Human Services and Transportation Committee this week.
The bill was introduced by Presiding Officer Pro Tempore Michael Victorino.
Committee Chair Stacy Crivello of Molokaʻi made the announcement saying, “If we want to enhance our public transportation system and encourage more users, this is the right thing to do.”
She continued saying, “We’re not only considering health, public safety and the environment, but this proposal promotes respect for each other.”
As currently written, the proposed bill would prohibit smoking 20 feet around bus shelters and bus stop signs.
The item is scheduled to surface for review at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 20, 2015.
The public is invited to submit testimony via email to [email protected].
