Maui Man Arrested for Alleged Attempted Murder of his Mom

A Maui man was arrested and later charged with second degree attempted murder and felony abuse of a family or household member after he allegedly stabbed his mother during an incident at a home in Nāpili on Friday, police said.

Major Akana, 24, of Nāpili, was arrested at 8:17 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 23, 2015.

Police responded a report of a stabbing victim at around 7:47 a.m. on Friday.

Police say the 50-year-old female victim, later identified as the suspect’s mother, was transported and admitted to the Maui Memorial Medical Center in critical condition with life threatening injuries.

According to police reports, officers located the suspect, Major Akana, and took him into custody.

He was being held in lieu of $1,005,000 at last report.
