An effort to weave a mile long Lei for Paris began over the weekend and continues today as organizers work to complete the project. The Lei for Paris project was launched by the Cynthia Rose Foundation.

When complete, it will be sent to Paris “to remind the world of the existence and power of kindness, love and aloha.” Organizers say it will stand, “as a bright light to overpower the negativity in the world today.”

A small delegation of emerging youth leaders will present the lei at various events and locations in Paris during their trip to the United Nations COP21 Negotiations.

By Sunday night, about a half mile of ti-leaf lei had been completed. The public is invited to help fish the lei by participating in the project at Nalu’s South Shore Grill in Kīhei. Organizers say they will be at the location all-day today until the lei is complete.

The youth involved in the project will be flying out of Kahului Airport tonight at around 10 p.m.
