High Surf Warning, Gale Warning in Effect

A Gale Warning is posted through 6 p.m. Monday for all Maui County channels. Winds up to 35 knots and seas up to 15 feet are expected.
A Small Craft Advisory is posted for all other Maui County waters and channels through 6 p.m. Monday. East winds are expected up to 30 knots and seas up to 12 feet.
A High Surf Warning is posted through Monday at 6 p.m. for east facing shores with 10 to 15 foot faces expected.

Maui Surf Forecast
North: Wave heights are expected to be waist/tummy high today. Trade swell focal points are expected to be overhead to well overhead.
West: Wave heights are below waist high today.
South: Wave heights are below waist high today. Spots catching the trade swell could be up to overhead.
A big surge in easterly winds has brought small craft advisory and gale warning conditions over the coastal waters. Trade swell will continue as long as the winds are up. The rough seas will maintain high surf along east facing shores of the islands. The high surf warning for east facing shores goes through Monday night, and may need to be extended into Tuesday. Other surf sources this week include small NW swells Tuesday and Thursday.
A northwest swell is expected to slowly build Monday, peak Tuesday and ease Wednesday.
Nothing of note expected out of the Southern Hemisphere for the final weeks of 2015.
Keep in mind, surf heights are measured on the face of the wave from trough to crest. Heights vary from beach to beach, and at the same beach, from break to break.
