Kaliko John Dane Sanchez

Kaliko John Dane Sanchez
August 12, 1984 – February 21, 2017

Kaliko John Dane Sanchez, was born on Aug. 12, 1984 in Wailuku, Maui and died on Feb. 21, 2017. He is survived by daughter; Krystian Kamalei Navarro-Sanchez, son; Khoen Keaolewa Sanchez, mom and dad; Rob & Ivy Jean Sanchez and sister; Tiare Kapika Sanchez. He also leaves his grandparents Tony and Barbara Bagio and numerous aunties, uncles and cousins.

Kaliko was an original of the Inaugural Class of Punana Leo O Maui in Wailuku. He attended Waiheʻe School, ʻĪao Intermediate, Saint Anthony and Baldwin High School. He graduated in 2012 from the University of Hawaiʻi Maui’s Culinary Program.

Kaliko enjoyed his trips to Hāna and the time he spent there with his ʻohana was very special. He also enjoyed being at the beach boogie boarding and hanging out with friends. Kaliko will truly be missed by his kind and gentle soul.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2017 at Ballard Family Mortuary in Kahului. Overnight vigil will begin at 5 p.m. with prayer service at 6 p.m. Vigil continues until 10 a.m. on Wednesday, March 1, 2017 with burial to follow at 11 a.m. at Valley Isle Memorial Park in Haʻikū.

Jennie is survived by her husband, Lee K. Rujke; son, Phillip T. Joram; mother, Anthina Joram; brothers, Edgar Joram, Edward Joram and sister, Carnnie Joram. She is predeceased by her father, Enlik Joram.

Madeline Furtado Funes, 91, of Makawao, Maui, passed away on Feb. 13, 2017, under the care of Hospice Maui. She was born on March 13, 1925, in Kula, Maui.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 to 11 a.m. on Friday, March 3, 2017, at Norman’s Mortuary; service will begin at 11 a.m.; burial will follow, 12:30 p.m., at Maui Memorial Park Cemetery in Wailuku.

Madeline was predeceased by her husband, William Funes. Roselani Cacal, 76, of Lahaina, passed away on Feb. 19, 2017 at Maui Memorial Medical Center. She was born on June 4, 1940 in Wailuku.

Visitation will be held from 9 to 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at Norman’s Mortuary, service will begin at 10:30 a.m., and burial will follow at 2 p.m. at Valley Isle Memorial Park in Haʻikū.

Roselani worked as a housekeeper for Nāpili Surf Beach Resort.

She is survived by her son, Benjamin (Adele) Cacal; daughters, Lori (Brent) Crowder, Jessica Cacal, Gina Cacal; hanai-daughter, Sandra Vasquez; brother, Domingo Bisera; sisters, Angie Vasquez, Patricia Juario; grandchildren, Shaina (Reven) Adlawan, Samantha (Reggie Harris) Cacal, Bridget (Riley Sinenci) Cacal, Amber Cacal, Erika Cacal, Krystal Cacal, Joshua Cacal, Brihanna Villa, Jonathan Crowder, and Brenton Crowder; great-grandchildren, Ryden Adlawan, Treyson Adlawan, Brayden Harris, Greyson Harris, and Kailen Cacal-Escobar.

Rizalino Ramil Dugay, 83, of Lānaʻi City, passed away on Feb. 16, 2017 on Lānaʻi. He was born on Sept. 12, 1933 in the Philippines.

Visitation will be held at 9 a.m. on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at Sacred Hearts Church in Lānaʻi City, mass will begin at 10 a.m., and burial will follow at Lānaʻi City Cemetery.

Mr. Dugay was a painter.

He is survived by his wife, Juanita Arucan Dugay; sons, Peregrino Dugay, Emmanuel (Betty Lou) Dugay; daughters, Rizanita (Douglas) Daguay, Evelyn (Angel, Jr.) Allas; brother, Emil (Lilia) Dugay of Kauai; sisters, Salvacion (Nemecio) Bolo, Jesus (Valentine) Caledonia both of the Philippines, Bernarda Dugay, Florentina (Pedro) Acob, Nenita (Martin) Bergonia, Adeline (Francesco) Constantino all of Kauai; four granddaughters, and three grandsons.

Rizalino was predeceased by his siblings, Pedro Dugay, Guillermo Dugay, Maria Dugay Baxa, and Alejandro Dugay.

Henry Polohau Kahula Jr., 75 of Pāʻia, Maui passed away on Feb. 11, 2017 at his residence under the care of his loving family and Hospice Maui. He was born on Nov. 29, 1941 in Hāna, Maui.

Henry retired as a Driver from Roberts Hawaiʻi.

Visitation will be held on Monday, Feb. 27, 2017 at Pāʻia Protestant Church from 9 to 11 a.m.; with service to begin at 11 a.m.; burial to follow at Maui Veteran’s Cemetery Makawao at 1 p.m.

Henry is predeceased by parents, Henry (Marie) Kahula Sr.; daughters, Florence K. Kahula and Elsie W. Kahula; sister, Ethel (Walter) Dela Cruz; brother, Wayne Kahula; survived by his wife, Philomena (Akuna) Kahula; children, Roxann (Wes) Arakaki, Henry P. Kahula III, Herrietta M. Kahula, Darnielle K. Kahula, Florence H. Kahula; 7 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; sister, Annie Kahula-Rahl, Rose Marie Mokihana Kahula; brother, Dennis Kahula Sr.; and numerous nephews and nieces.

Dyan Puanani Osoro-Petersen
May 7, 1947 – February 8, 2017

Dyan Osorno-Petersen was born to Ventura (Dyna) and Puanani (Nani) Osorno in Maui, Hawaiʻi on May 7, 1947. She graduated with honors from St. Anthony’s Catholic High-School on Maui and St. Mary’s College in Omaha, Nebraska.

Dyan was the beloved wife of Michael L. Petersen for 46 years. Together they had two children Perry Petersen and Dyna Lee Petersen-Boen. She was also Grandmother to Elly Anne Boen. Dyan was a well loved teacher at Touchstone School in Lake Oswego and Tigard Oregon for nearly 20 years.

She is survived by her brother Wendell Osorno, and her two sisters Dale Osorno and Pikaki Osorno-Downing. She passed away in Wilsonville, Oregon on Feb. 8, 2017. Her ashes will be returned to her island home. Aloha ʻOe (Farewell to Thee).

Grace Leinaala Eskaran, 78, of Lānaʻi City, passed away on Feb. 8, 2017 at Lānaʻi Community Hospital. She was born on June 17, 1938 in Lānaʻi City.

Wake service will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday, March 3, 2017 at the ILWU hall in Lānaʻi City. Mass will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at Sacred Hearts Church, Lānaʻi, and burial will follow at Lānaʻi City Cemetery.

Grace worked as a Landscaper.

She is survived by her husband, Dennis Mona Eskaran, Sr.; sons, Dennis Mona Eskaran Jr., Martin (Lanai) Eskaran, Dean (Dyana Ganer) Eskaran, Lindsay Eskaran; sisters, Eleanor “Bulu” Kekiwi, Elizabeth Ku’uipo Lanoza; brother, Benjamin Kaaikala, Sr.; six granddaughters, five grandsons; four great-granddaughters, and two great-grandsons.

Sheldon Keahiawakea Brown, 67 of Waiʻehu, passed away on Feb. 7, 2017 in Waiʻehu.

He was born in Wailuku on Oct. 19, 1949.

Visitation will be held from 8 to 11 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 23, 2017, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Kahului Stake Center; service will begin at 11 a.m., and burial will follow at 1 p.m. at the Maui Veteran’s Cemetery in Makawao.

Sheldon was a Musician and Entertainer.

He is survived by his wife, Kawaiola Carolyn Sniffen-Brown; children, Ronnie (Tracy) Brown, Sharolyn (Wesley) Pali, Keaka (Sarah) Brown, Rodlyn (Art) Muro, and Ronald (Robin) Min; siblings, Kalbert Kealoha, Glennys Kealoha, Avis Visaya, Terrence Kealoha, Kendall Kealoha, Sandra-Lene Kealoha-Apolo, Harry Brown Jr., Kevin Brown, Linda Hambright, Fern-Ilima Inouye, Shannon Brown, Beverly Ezekiela, and Haroldeen Ortiz; and 14 grandchildren, Tu’imana, Bryson, Jaynalyn, Tylor, Kimberly, McKay, Kallye, Lehi, Samuel, Shairah-Lei, Haedyn, Kamana’oLana, Carter, and Kaleiopoli’ala.

Kahu Marian Kanipae passed away peacefully at home in Lānaʻi City, surrounded by family, music and love. She was born on Nov. 23, 1915, in Lānaʻi City.

Services will be held at Kalanakila O Ka Malamalama Hoomana O Irodane Hou, Lānaʻi City on Saturday, Feb. 25, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. Visitation begins at 8:30 a.m. Burial will follow at Lānaʻi City Cemetery.

Hilda Decker
August 22, 1926 – February 21, 2017

Hilda Kathleen Decker, 90, of Waimea, Hawaiʻi, was born in Indiana on Aug. 22, 1926, and passed away on Feb. 21, 2017 in Honokaʻa, Hawaiʻi due to alzheimers. Hilda worked as a Sunday school teacher and a home maker. She used to say “I don’t have a bad memory, I have a good forgetter.”

She is survived by sons Johnny (Marilyn) Decker of Stratham, New Hampshire; Robert (Pam) Decker of Kamuela, Hawaiʻi; daughter Nancy (Michael) Douherty of Walnut Creek, California; sister Rosalee Rogers of Santa Rosa, California; and five grandchildren.

Private services will be held.
