Freida Pinto to Receive 2017 Maui Film Festival Shining Star Award
The 2017 Maui Film Festival has selected Freida Pinto as the recipient of its Shining Star Award this year. Pinto became a fixture on the big screen with her performance in “Slumdog Millionaire.”
Most recently, Pinto was seen in Richard Raymond’s “Desert Dancer,” and Terrence Malick’s “Knight of Cups.” She can currently be seen in the series “Guerrilla,” on Showtime; and will next be seen in Warner Brothers’ “Jungle Book,” set for release in October of 2018, as well as the independent feature “Love Sonia,” expected to premiere later this year.
Other film credits include “Miral,” “Rise of the Planet of the Apes,” “Black Gold,” “Immortals,” “Trishna,” and “You Will Meet a Dark Stranger.”
The Shining Star Award honors a film artist who dares to dream big dreams and delivers brilliantly charismatic performances every time that opportunity knocks.
“After scanning the constellation of cinema stardom for a film artist who has already and deservedly enjoyed great success, and yet is still in the ascendancy of his or her career,” said Barry Rivers, founder and director of the Festival. “We are so very excited to honor Freida Pinto, whose exceptional passion and drive continue to soar, as that person.”
The Festival has previously presented the Shining Star Award to Adam Driver, Zac Efron, Andrew Garfield, Jake Gyllenhaal, Emma Roberts and Olivia Wilde.
Pinto will be honored at the Festival’s popular Celestial Cinema event on Thursday, June 22nd, at the Wailea Gold & Emerald Golf Course. The 18th annual Maui Film Festival runs from June 21-25, 2017 in Wailea.
