REPORT: Fire on Haleakalā Highway

At 4:24 p.m. Maui Now received numerous reports of a fire on Haleakala Highway.

Fire crews are en route taking Firebreak Rd. to get to the fire. Air 1 was dispatched and is assisting with the fire.

The fire is in an old sugar field. Fire crews are reporting strong wind gusts in the area.

Fire officials are now trying to prevent the fire from spreading up to the field above of them (mauka). Tanker 10 and Engine 2 are also on scene. Units are trying to keep the fire from jumping.

Use caution while driving in the area.
