Danielle Phillips, LSW, has been hired as Director of Social Services for Hale Makua Health Services’ two skilled and intermediate nursing homes, rehab centers and Adult Day Health center.

Danielle Phillips, LSW, has been hired as Director of Social Services for Hale Makua Health Services’ two skilled and intermediate nursing homes, rehab centers and Adult Day Health center.

Most recently, Phillips worked as Licensed Social Worker / Substance Abuse Counselor at Mālama I Ke Ola Health Center.

Phillips holds a Master of Social Work degree from the University of Hawai’i Mānoa and a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Georgia. She is a Licensed Social Worker in the State of Hawai’i, and is the Chair for Continuing Education Committee for the National Association of Social Workers Board of Directors, Hawai’i Chapter. In addition, Phillips serves as the Board President for Kansha Intergenerational Preschool & Nisei Veterans Center.

Hale Makua Kahului Administrator, Teana Kaho’ohanohano, said “We’re excited to have Danielle join our team, and the local experience in the field of Social Work that she brings with her. Danielle’s expertise in healthcare on Maui will be a tremendous asset for the organization and the individuals we serve.”

As the Director of Social Services, Phillips is responsible for proving oversight for social work to Hale Makua’s residents and clients, assuring that residents and families are informed of their rights, providing individual and family counseling, developing a social work care plan, and ensuring on-going psycho-social evaluations are being performed. In addition, Phillips is responsible for providing consultation to staff members and community agencies in an effort to solve needs and issues that arise with residents, and investigates and documents resident grievances or complaints.

Phillips said, “I have always been drawn to people, which began through volunteer work. I am both proud and grateful to join the Hale Makua Health Services and its Social Services ʻohana. As one of the only long term care homes on Maui, I have always considered Hale Makua to be one of our most dynamic and uniquely important community resources. I am humbled and honored to serve our kupuna alongside the incredibly knowledgeable and innovative team at Hale Makua.”
