While public school students are out on spring break this week, working hours are being extended in the morning and evening for a Maui County repaving project on Līpoa Street in Kīhei.

The road serves traffic going to and from Kīhei Elementary and Lokelani Intermediate schools. Students at these sites are on spring recess from Monday, March 18, to Friday, March 22.

The extended hours for contractor Hi Built are from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday for spring break only. Beginning next week (the week of March 25), work hours return to normal hours from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays.

The repaving work on Līpoa Street is from its intersection with Piʻilani Highway to South Kīhei Road.

The repaving work is part of a larger, nearly $4.7 million project to make roadway improvements to Kūlanihākoʻi Street, East Waipuilani Road and East Welakahao Road. Other work includes replacing concrete sidewalks, curbs, gutters, curb ramps and utility collars. The contractor also is installing new striping, markers and signs.

The project is targeted for completion in late April.
